4 Reasons ReGeneration Schools is a Top 10 Best Charter Elementary School

Our team is proud to receive such high rankings in U.S. News’s list of 2021’s Top 10 Best Charter Elementary Schools in Illinois. All three of ReGeneration Schools’ Chicago locations – CICS Avalon, CICS Basil, and CICS Washington Park – ranked within the top ten!

After analyzing more than 100,000 elementary charter schools in Illinois, considering Reading and Math proficiency, and determining how well each school serves its respective communities, U.S. News determined that ReGeneration Schools deserved a top ten spot.

Our rigorous academics, teaching excellence, and the high expectations that we hold for both students and staff  has put our students on a path of success and helped to build the leaders of tomorrow.

Here’s how we achieved our top-ten ranking:

1. A Strong Academic Foundation

ReGeneration Schools utilizes a rigorous curriculum that is social justice-based. This allows our children to see a mirror of themselves in what they learn while also providing a window into other cultures. We keep our schools small so we know each child well and we can help them reach their true and full potential. We believe that each child should be well-known, cared for, and respected, providing them with the sense of well-being necessary for effective learning.

Our focus on achieving mastery in Reading, Writing, and Math improves ReGeneration students’ ability to engage in critical thinking, discussion, and dialogue. Our materials are culturally relevant and appropriate for our student body. We help students gain a deeper understanding of themselves and their community.

The ReGeneration model is designed to advance a student’s capacity for critical thinking, help students better understand themselves as learners, and support our student’s high academic performance as they progress through high school and graduate from college.

We are deeply committed to helping our students reach their full potential as learners and as citizens.

2. Teaching Excellence

Academic success starts with the adults in the building. Exceptional instruction is the foundation of high academic achievement.

At the core of our teacher development is practice. Teachers receive frequent coaching, observation, and feedback on how to better deliver instruction. We create a culture of transparency in which feedback is immediate and we collaborate to identify and address any issues.

Our team uses data-driven instruction, routinely analyzing student performance so that we can understand what is needed to help our students achieve necessary skills.

Teachers must be prepared to support students – regardless of the pace or style in which they learn – until they reach mastery.

3. Character Development

We hold extremely high expectations for the behavior of Regeneration Schools’ students and staff. We embed character development into the everyday routines of our schools. In order to fulfill the long-term goal of building students into leaders, ReGeneration helps its students model the characteristics of successful people while continuing to build their academic skills.

Each morning, ReGeneration students participate in the Positivity Project, a program built around understanding and adopting 24 positive character strengths. We ask that students evaluate their own behaviors and the behaviors of their community. We engage students in problem-solving and work together to build a positive school community.

Students know what to expect of themselves, their teachers, and their school community.  They thrive in a safe, stable, and supportive environment. Our respect for each other is the foundation for our culture of excellence.

4. High Expectations

To support ReGeneration Schools’ students through the long climb to college, we work to integrate perseverance and courage into all aspects of our program. This starts with the expectations we hold for ourselves, and it translates into the expectations that we hold for our students.

By helping students achieve mastery in core subjects, develop effective habits of discussion, learn how to respectfully engage their teachers, and understand their personal strengths, we are preparing them for college success.

We are steadfast in our belief that our students will go to and through college, and we hold ourselves responsible for helping them achieve their dreams.
