At ReGeneration Bond Hill, Education is a Team Effort! Andrea Bilbrew, ReGen Parent

Being a parent of a young child during the pandemic was hard enough. My schedule made it even more challenging. This past year, I worked full-time as a medical assistant while going to school to become a registered nurse.

I needed a school that treated me and my son as true partners. Fortunately, I found a special elementary school this past year for my son, Aaron: ReGeneration Bond Hill.  

Back in 2019, my son, Aaron – a first-grader at the time – would get frustrated because he didn’t find school challenging. His teachers were well-meaning but saw his energy as something they had to control. For me, Aaron was a creative child whose learning needs were not being met. 

In the fall of 2019, my son’s former daycare teacher recommended ReGeneration as a school with teachers who would take a real interest in my son. I called up ReGeneration and scheduled a school tour (pre-pandemic). I was impressed by how the students wore uniforms and raised their hands enthusiastically when teachers asked a question.  

I transferred Aaron to ReGeneration in October 2020, right before the public schools transitioned to remote learning. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I made as a parent.

ReGeneration teachers did a great job communicating with me this past year. ReGeneration teachers would text me when he learned something new or had a great day. His teachers’ positive messages helped to keep both Aaron and me motivated.

ReGeneration teachers made him excited about learning. At dinner, Aaron would tell me what he learned in his Zoom math class. School was now fun and challenging for Aaron.

ReGeneration also did an excellent job handling the transiting back to in-person learning this spring. Aaron had missed seeing his teacher and all of his friends. The ReGen campus on 5158 Fishwick Drive has an outdoor playground where he could run around and use the giant slide. Recess was a great outlet for his energy.

Both Aaron and I cannot wait for the new school year to start this August. ReGeneration makes learning a team effort.
