CICS Basil is the Right School For Me and My Son
Kenneta Scott, ReGen Parent
Ms. Kenneta Scott is a CICS Basil Kindergarten teacher and parent of a CICS Basil 4th grader. Prior to joining the ReGen family, Ms. Scott was an early childhood teacher at a local preschool.
As an early childhood educator, I’ve spent the past 10 years working with kids from infants to kindergarten age. Many of my after-school students attended kindergarten at a place called ReGeneration Schools. When I would pick them up in the afternoons, I was so impressed by what I saw: the warm and welcoming campus, the collegiate atmosphere, and the dedicated teachers.
Knowing the expectations for kindergarten students, I saw ReGeneration scholars meeting and exceeding those expectations every day. I wanted to be a part of that, so two years ago I became a kindergarten teacher at CICS Basil.
I love how my ReGeneration scholars develop their character as they strive to achieve the virtues we teach them every single day. I serve as the Student Joy lead for our grade, where I plan field trips and Fun Friday activities, as well as recognize and reward scholars who have won awards.
At CICS Basil, we create a college-going atmosphere even in kindergarten. Our classrooms are named after colleges and universities so that scholars can talk about these places called “college” every day. We structure our lessons so that students aren’t just memorizing their ABCs and 123s, but also understanding what they mean and how to use them.
Teaching ReGeneration scholars in my kindergarten classroom, I wanted my own child to be one of them! Just a couple of months after I started teaching at CICS Basil, I transferred my son Walter to the school. It has been transformative for Walter.
Since he came to CICS Basil, I’ve seen a side of my son I didn’t know existed. He was unhappy at his old school. He loves being at school, tries to have perfect attendance, and brags about his accomplishments in class. He’s discovered a love for math, and now he runs home to tell me all about the new concepts he learns every day, like long division!
As a teacher and a mom, I’ve found a community at CICS Basil. I tell other parents, not only will your child learn to their highest potential, they’ll be excited to come home and teach you something too!
Please come visit us and learn about our schools! Tours and information sessions can be scheduled by calling the school’s main office.
